There is old-school cool, and then there are photographs that make the past look considerably more stylish than it probably was. Somehow, ordinary people heading to work, going on dates or simply posing for a family photo occasionally ended up looking like they were shooting an album cover instead. The clothes certainly help, but so do the cars, hairstyles, furniture and little details that instantly place an image in another decade. Even offices, trains and city streets could look strangely cinematic through the right camera. Best of all, most of these people were not trying to create an iconic photograph.
