Marvel Fans React to the Loki Finale

This article contains spoilers for the Loki finale.

So, we now officially know that Marvel’s Loki will be back for Season 2, but this week it finished up its first season on Disney+ by blowing up the MCU as we know it and re-establishing the Marvel multiverse, which once existed but was actually at war with itself. Apparently, Miss Minutes was at least telling the truth in that part of her TVA orientation video.

In the Loki finale, “For All Time. Always.”, we met the villainous Kang the Conqueror (Jonathan Majors), who first discovered that the multiverse existed as a scientist on Earth and decided that he had the answer to all of the multiverse’s territorial woes in the future: construct a Sacred Timeline policed by the Time Variance Authority to make sure the multiverse wouldn’t happen and our universe could continue on blissfully unaware of its existence.

But after eons of hard work to keep the ship running smoothly, Kang got tired. And when he saw that Loki (Tom Hiddleston) and Sylvie (Sophia di Martino) were on a mission to confront him, he gave them a choice: kill him and unleash the multiverse, or take over and run the TVA in his place. Loki was leaning toward the latter, but Sylvie wasn’t to be dissuaded – she killed this version of Kang and kickstarted the multiverse again, which comes complete with an infinite number of possibilities and an infinite number of Kangs. And some of them? Yeah, they ain’t so amiable.

Kang will return in future MCU projects, but so will Loki! In the finale, the God of Mischief ultimately survived his Battle of New York pruning but lost the connections he’d made after disagreeing with Sylvie over the path they should take, only to find upon his return to the TVA that Mobius and B-15 had no clue who he was.

The TVA had been altered to reflect its multiversal state after Kang’s death, and the mythical Time-Keepers were no longer even a thing; their iconic statue changed to reflect Kang’s appearance. We left Loki devastated, confused and scared about what the future might hold, but it seems that he wants to try and help with the fallout. Cue Season 2!

Marvel fans had been highly anticipating Loki’s finale all week as it seemed to be the first Disney+ series that would have a massive impact on the MCU. Despite some of them being utterly confused by a lot of its Kang exposition, most of them seemed delighted with the finale and all the ways it might affect the stories of Marvel’s Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness, Spider-Man: No Way Home and Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania.
